Status update — September 20, 2026
Retatrutide remains investigational and NOT FDA-approved; in Lilly’s words it “cannot be legally sold or marketed for human use” (press release, July 23, 2026). Lilly has announced topline Phase 3 results by press release — TRIUMPH-4 (Dec 11, 2025; 28.7% mean weight loss at 12 mg vs 2.1% placebo, 68 weeks), TRIUMPH-1 (May 21, 2026; 28.3% vs 2.2%, 80 weeks), TRIUMPH-2 and TRIUMPH-3 (Jul 23, 2026; 20.8% and 22.6%) — which are company-reported and not yet peer-reviewed. The only peer-reviewed Phase 3 publication is TRANSCEND-T2D-1 in type-2 diabetes (The Lancet, June 2026, PMID 42250575). Lilly says it plans to submit a Biologics License Application (BLA) in Q1 2027 — a company projection, not an FDA decision or date. TRIUMPH-2 is scheduled for presentation at EASD 2026 (Milan, Sep 28–Oct 2), a future presentation as of this update.
Separately, two oral GLP-1 medicines are now FDA-approved for weight management: Wegovy tablets 25 mg (Dec 22, 2025) and Foundayo (orforglipron, Apr 1, 2026; maximum 17.2 mg once daily). Earlier estimates on this page that predate these announcements are kept for context.
